Classroom Based Training
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic retail operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context. Work would be undertaken in various retail store settings, such as specialty stores, supermarkets, department stores and retail fast food outlets. Individuals may work with some autonomy or in a team but usually under close supervision.
Units
Students must complete a minimum of 14 units to achieve this qualification consisting of 9 core units, 3 units from Group A or B units and 2 elective units. This Program has been packaged to meet industry skill sets and the Victorian purchasing guide requirements.

Entrance Requirements
- Students must be currently working in an organisation approved by Ascet Tech.
- All students must undertake and be competent in a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.

Duration
SIR20207 Certificate II in Retail is delivered as a mixed mode program requiring attendance at a number of classroom based sessions. The program is conducted over a 2 week period. 10 contact sessions will be held, one each day , of 7 hours duration. Students are required to undertake pre-reading, formative activities and prepare assessment activities between sessions.
Courses are run regularly throughout the year. Please refer to the RTO Course Timetable for exact course dates.
You may be able to reduce the duration of the course by applying for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer. The recognition and assessment of skills acquired through life experience, work experience or non-accredited/accredited training programs may be requested through the Recognition of Prior Learning process. AQF Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations will be recognised.
Delivery
This program is delivered as a combination of self-directed learning and classroom based session. Classroom based training occurs for the purpose of delivering theory based lessons around each of the units and activities connected to the theory enables students to develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the topic. During the period between instructor contact sessions candidates need to undertake pre-reading for the next topic and complete written activities and assignments that address the evidence requirements of the competencies.

Assessment
Assessment is used to provide students with feedback on their progress and to measure their skills and knowledge against the training qualification requirements and those of the industry. Students will be required to complete a range of assessment activities including a portfolio of workbooks, activities, documents and assignments, observations in the workplace and oral questioning.
Outcome / Future Pathways
Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students will receive SIR20207 Certificate II in Retail, Nationally Recognised.
Participants who successfully complete this qualification have the option of a future pathway into SIR30207 Certificate III in Retail or changing to a different area of study.
