SIR40207 - Certificate IV in Retail Management

retailWorkplace Based Training or Classroom Based Training

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in the first line management skills of those working in the retail and/or wholesale industries.  It applies to those who are manageing a small retail outlet, a section or department within a larger retail store, a small wholesale outlet, or a section or department within a larger wholesale business.

SIR40207 Units

Students must complete a minimum of 10 units to achieve this qualification comprising of 3 core units and a minimum of 7 elective units.

Entrance Requirements

  • Students must be currently working at an organisation approved by Ascet Tech.
  • All students must undertake and be competent in a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.
  • Students must undertake the Qualification entry pathway to ensure they have industry experience skills or qualifications equivalent to 
  • Certificate III in Retail or Wholesale. 

Job Roles

Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:

  • Store manager
  • Sales manager
  • Department manager
  • Shift manager
  • Customer service manager
  • Merchandise manager

Duration

WORKPLACE BASED TRAINING:
The program is delivered over a maximum period of 24 months (full-time), or 48 months (part-time).

Ascet Tech recommends an average time of 10 months for the training of this qualification. ASCET will maintain an average of 40 nominal hours of training commenced each month. The training timetable outlines this for the instructor, trainee and workplace.

CLASS BASED TRAINING:
The program is delivered over a 12 week period with 6 contact sessions of 7 hours duration.   A Sample time table would allocate classes once every two weeks. Ascet Tech recommends a minimum allocation of 16 hours per week to complete tasks in between mentored sessions (2 week intervals).

You may be able to reduce the duration of the course by applying for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer. The recognition and assessment of skills acquired through life experience, work experience or non-accredited/accredited training programs may be requested through the Recognition of Prior Learning process. AQF Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations will be recognised.

Delivery

Class Based Training requires students to undertake pre-reading, complete formative activities and prepare assignments between sessions. Students are required to present practical assignments in the mentored sessions as part of the essential evidence gathering. This qualification is delivered in Ascet Tech Classrooms.

Workplace Based Training is delivered via work place based learning. Trainees are guided through the program with the assistance of an instructor from Ascet Tech and the workplace supervisor. Ascet Tech will make monthly face-to-face contact with the trainee and the workplace supervisor.  It is a requirement of the program that all trainees are to be withdrawn from routine work duties for a minimum period of 3 hours per week averaged over a four week cycle for the purpose of undertaking structured training/learning activities (pro rata for part time).

Assessment

Assessment is used to provide students with feedback on their progress and to measure their skills and knowledge against the training qualification requirements and those of the industry.  Assessment of competency is through the collection of a range of evidence. Students will be required to complete a range of assessment activities including a portfolio of workbooks, activities, documents and assignments. Skills demonstration (workplace observation), and Oral questioning.

Outcome / Future Pathways

Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students will receive SIR40207 Certificate IV in Retail, Nationally Recognised.

Training will commence only once a signed enrolment form and payment has been received by Ascet Tech.
