Class Based Training

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to perform First Aid.  This qualification is an occupational requirement for most industries.  It is commonly known as Senior First Aid.

Units

Students must complete one unit of competency to achieve this qualification.  This program has been packaged to meet industry skill sets and the Victorian Purchasing Guide requirements.

  • HLTFA301B - Apply First Aid
This unit incorporates the content of
  • HLTCPR201A - Perform CPR
  • HLTFA201A - Provide basic emergency life support

Entrance Requirements

  • All students must undertake and be competent in a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.
  • Workbook issued at enrolment is required to be completed prior the one day classroom based training.

Job Roles

Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:

  • First Aid officer
  • Health & Safety officer

Duration

The program is conducted over the equivalent of two days; one day is self-directed study prior to the class day where the student watches a First Aid DVD and completes a workbook.  The class day is one full day duration of 8 hours.

You may be able to reduce the duration of the course by applying for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer. The recognition and assessment of skills acquired through life experience, work experience or non-accredited/accredited training programs may be requested through the Recognition of Prior Learning process. AQF Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations will be recognised.

Delivery

The practical training program is delivered via classroom based learning. Students are guided through the program with the assistance of an instructor from Ascet Tech. Students undertake pre-reading, formative activities and sit a written test.

Assessment

Students will be assessed both theoretically and practically based on their capabilities in a range of operational scenarios. Students will be required to participate in role plays, practically demonstrate their acquired skill and knowledge and be competent in answering questions on the day of the classroom based learning. They must also complete a workbook prior to attending the class, which will contribute to the portfolio of evidence for the final assessment.

Outcome / Future Pathways

Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students will receive a Statement of Attainment in HLTFA301B Apply First Aid, Nationally Recognised.

This qualification is valid for three years from the date of issue, although it recommended that the CPR component of the course be updated annually.

Training will commence only once a signed enrolment form and payment has been received by Ascet Tech.
