Apprenticeships & Traineeships

  1. What are the benefits of work based training to employers?
You're more likely to hang on to an apprentice when you train them on the job rather than run the risk of them being "poached" when you send them of to trade school.
  2. Will my apprentice have to go to trade school and leave me a staff member down at work?
No...We bring the trade school to you by providing the theoretical training and practical support via a qualified TAFE teacher at your worksite.
  3. Why does training an apprentice at the workplace produce better skills outcomes for the apprentice?
We provide a qualified training manager onsite with all the training resources required for high quality training. It's like having a personal trainer pushing the apprentice to higher goals!!!!
  4. Why is work-based training better for my staff?
    Let's consider the choices available!
Would you prefer your staff learning 1 on 1 with a personal trainer then supported on the job by your skilled staff?
    or
Learning in a noisy class with a ratio of 1 trainer to 30 students? The choice is yours!
  5. Do you come to train at service time or when I am busy?
We are more flexible than that! Don't you just hate it when you have a large function and you guessed it...your apprentice is off at trade school.
  6. What is an advantage to me of having an apprentice or trainee signed up?
It can improve motivation and morale for the right staff member because it demonstrates a long term commitment to an entry level employee.
  7. How does this method of training compare to traditional "trade school" training?
The true tradition of trade training is an apprentice is taught by a master (1 on 1) rather than in a classroom. Our work-based training supports the original model of trade training perfected by craftsmen throughout the centuries.
  8. Wouldn't the cost of having an apprentice go through trade school be the same as using an RTO such as Ascet?
No...There is approximately a $25,000 hidden labour cost to the employer over 3 years for sending a apprentice to trade school.
  9. Don't trade schools have better facilities specifically designed for apprenticeships?
We use modern training methods and resources.
  10. Trade school never keeps me up to date, with what my apprentice is doing, and when they are meant to be at school and when they are not?
Our Self paced options eliminate this hassle caused by term based classroom training. You will be given a training plan and timetable so you will know the exact time and day that your apprentices is expected to return assignments.
  11. How do I know my employee is completing the work to a satisfactory standard?
We provide regular feedback and performance review.
  12. Doesn't Trade school teach apprentices other subjects like Ice carving and margarine sculpting?
All apprentices use the same curriculum however we have better self placed resources that cut out the boring old lectures that are offered by traditional trade schools.
  13. I have always sent my apprentices to trade school. Why should I change?
We used to go down to see the bank manager for a loan too.
  14. Why should I choose Ascet TAFE rather than another culinary college?
Our training leads to the employer preferred outcomes i.e. Knife skills, Passion, Kitchen Etiquette, Food Knowledge.
  15. Do I have to pay the whole student fee co contribution up front?
No! Our billing arrangements with Fees and Charges are more suitable to business cash flow. You are billed in arrears quarterly so usually your government support payments are received before student fees are levied.
  16. What type of facilities do you have available if my staff do not get a chance to something in the work place?
We have fully equipped modern operational kitchens than can support the training in the event that your workplace equipment is not suitable.
  17. How does my student get a chance to compete with other students?
We often bring students from different workplaces together for some of the activities. You might consider entering your apprentice in our annual competitions.
