Apprenticeships & Traineeships
- What are the benefits of work-based training for employers?
You're more likely to hang on to an apprentice when you train them on the job rather than risking them being "poached" when you send them to trade school.
- Will my apprentice have to go to trade school and leave me a staff member down at work?
No. We bring the trade school to you by providing the theoretical training and practical support via a qualified TAFE teacher at your worksite.
- Why does training an apprentice in the workplace produce better skills outcomes for the apprentice?
We provide a qualified training manager onsite with all the training resources required for high-quality training. It's like having a personal trainer pushing the apprentice to higher goals!
- Why is work-based training better for my staff?
Your apprentices will learn 1-on -1 with a personal trainer and be supported on the job by your skilled staff. This is simply more effective than learning in a classroom of one trainer to 30 students.
- Do you come to train at service time or when I am busy?
We will always deliver flexible training sessions that suit your work schedule. No exceptions.
- Why should I sign up my apprentice or trainee?
For the right staff member, training improves motivation and morale. You are showing a long-term commitment to an entry-level employee.
- How does this method of training compare to traditional "trade school" training?
Traditionally, an apprentice was taught by a master (1 on 1) rather than in a classroom. Our work-based training supports the original model of trade training, because it works.
- Wouldn't the cost of trade school be equivalent to an RTO such as Ascet?
No. There is approximately a $25,000 hidden labour cost to the employer over 3 years for sending an apprentice to trade school.
- Don't trade schools have better facilities specifically designed for apprenticeships?
We use modern training methods and resources.
- Can you keep me informed of my apprentice’s progress? When they are meant to be at school and when they are not?
Our self-paced options eliminate the hassle caused by term-based classroom training. You will be given a training plan and timetable so you know the exact times and days that your apprentice is expected to return assignments.
- How do I know my employee is completing the work to a satisfactory standard?
We provide regular feedback and performance review.
- Doesn't trade school teach apprentices other subjects like ice carving?
All apprentices use the same curriculum; however, we have better self-paced resources that cut out boring lectures offered by traditional trade schools.
- I have always sent my apprentices to trade school. Why should I change?
We used to go down to see the bank manager for a loan too. Ascet Tafe provides the same valuable qualification in a more efficient/streamlined way. Our delivery method means your business saves time and money while training staff.
- Why should I choose Ascet TAFE rather than another culinary college?
Our training leads to the employer-preferred outcomes, i.e. Knife skills, Passion, Kitchen Etiquette, Food Knowledge.
- Do I have to pay the whole student co-contribution fee up front?
No. Our billing arrangements are better suited to business cash flow. You are billed in arrears quarterly, so your government support payments are usually received before student fees are levied.
- What type of facilities are available if my staff don’t get a chance to do something in the work place?
We have fully equipped, modern operational kitchens than can support training in the event that your workplace equipment is not suitable.
- How does my student get a chance to compete with other students?
We often bring students from different workplaces together for training activities.
