Workplace Based Training
This program is designed to provide participants with practical skills and knowledge appropriate to assisting others in a position of responsibility in a customer-service/general hospitality based operation. Work would be undertaken in various hospitality settings such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. individuals may have some responsibility for others and provide technical advice and support to a team.
Units
Students must complete a minimum of 16 units to achieve this qualification consisting of 8 core units and 8 elective units. This Program has been packaged to meet industry skill sets and the Victorian purchasing guide requirements. For this qualification, electives may be selected to meet either a specialist or multi-skilled job outcome.

Entrance Requirements
- Students must be currently working at an organisation approved by Ascet Tech.
- All students must undertake and be competent in a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.
Job Roles
Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:
- Cook (non-apprentice)
- Front desk receptionist
- Housekeeper
Duration
The program is delivered over a maximum period of 24 months (full-time), or 48 months (part-time). Ascet Tech recommends an average time of 12 months for the training of this qualification. Ascet Tech will maintain an average of 50 nominal hours of training commenced each month.

You may be able to reduce the duration of the course by applying for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer:. The recognition and assessment of skills acquired through life experience, work experience or non-accredited/accredited training programs may be requested through the Recognition of Prior Learning process. AQF Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations will be recognised.
Delivery
The training program is delivered via work place based learning. Students are guided through the program with the assistance of an instructor from Ascet Tech and the workplace supervisor.
Ascet Tech will make monthly face-to-face contact with the trainee and the workplace supervisor. It is a requirement of the program that all Trainees are to be withdrawn from routine work duties for a minimum of 3 hours per week averaged over four week cycle, for the purpose of structured training.

Assessment
Assessment is used to provide students with feedback on their progress and to measure their skills and knowledge against the training qualification requirements and those of the industry. Assessment of competency is through the collection of a range of evidence. Students will be required to complete a range of assessment activities including a portfolio of workbooks, activities and assignments, oral questioning, workplace observations, a log book and third party reports. The assessment process may require some time away from the workplace to complete assignments and self-directed exercises.
Outcome / Future Pathways
Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students will receive SIT30707 Certificate III in Hospitality, Nationally Recognised.
Participants who successfully complete this qualification have the option of a future pathway into SIT30807 Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery), SIT40307 Certificate IV in Hospitality or one of the many level IV specialisation qualifications.
